September 25th through December 22nd. The Cahoon Museum of American Art announces the opening of Book Arts: Conversations in Art and Words running September 25th through December 22nd. This exhibition highlights the work of Cape Cod and regional artist book makers who interweave visual art and language in their artwork. Artists’ books exist at the intersection of a wide variety of art forms including printmaking, photography, graphic design, and sculpture and many of the artists also work in these art forms. The show includes examples that range from accordion books, to scrolls, to new media. The exhibition demonstrates how using journal entries, integrating literature, and directly collaborating with writers can inform and expand the meaning of a visual image. Several of the artworks are interactive, and visitors are invited to initiate their own collaborative exchange through writing, drawing, and contemplation. The exhibiting artists each have a connection to Cape Cod and include Marie Canaves, Deborah Carter, Lynne Francis-Lunn, Sheryl Jaffe, Mary Kane, Ronni Komarow, Michelle Law, David Phillips, Susan Porter, Sara Ringler, Angela Rose, Angela Tanner, and Vicky Tomayko. Programs associated with the exhibition include art workshops, artist gallery talks, opportunities to work side by side with exhibiting artists, and ongoing book-making activities in the Museum’s learning center. www.cahoonmuseum.org for more information.
