(Hyannis, June 5, 2018) Cape Cod Hospital and Falmouth Hospital are in urgent need of blood donations. The hospitals must have at least one week’s worth of blood on hand at all times. Since each unit collected or purchased will only last between 35 to 42 days, it is a constant challenge to maintain sufficient supply. Numerous blood drives are being held across Cape Cod in June to benefit Cape Cod Healthcare (CCHC). The majority of them will be held in the CCHC Blood Mobile, which is located in the parking lot of sponsoring businesses and organizations. All blood collected at CCHC Blood Drives stays on Cape Cod to help our families, friends and neighbors. Donors at all June blood drives will receive a Cumberland Farms gift card, with the exception of the June 26 drive at Wendy’s in Orleans, where donors will receive a Wendy’s gift card. World Blood Donor Day is on June 14 this year. The event is meant to thank volunteers who donate blood and encourage blood donation throughout the year. This year’s theme is “Share Life, Give Blood.” One of the goals of this year’s observance is to encourage younger people to feel encouraged to start donating blood, so that the donor population stays strong. Walk-ins are welcome at all CCHC blood drives. To make an appointment to donate blood, please visit www.capecodhealth.org/giveblood or call 508-86BLOOD.
