Local nonprofit seeks to assist over 200 families with baby essentials & resources Hyannis, MA — Cape & Islands United Way (CIUW) will host 3 Community Baby Showers in Hyannis, Nantucket, and Martha’s Vineyard this May. In the spirit of a traditional baby shower, CIUW Community Baby Showers are a celebration for new and expectant mothers. The purpose of the event is to serve low-income families by providing baby essentials, supplies, and access to local resources that help give families a stronger start to parenthood. CIUW is also seeking item donations, such as onesies, bath essentials, bibs, bottles, pacifiers, childproof latches, and more, via its Amazon Wishlist at https://tinyurl.com/ciuw-baby-shower. Families that participate receive early childhood supplies - including diapers - as well as the opportunity to meet with various community organizations that provide resources to mothers and families on Cape Cod, including Cape Cod Healthcare, Cape Kids Meals, Health Imperatives,, the Family Pantry of Cape Cod, the YMCA, Cape Cod Toy Library, and more. Families can also receive hands-on car seat installation training. To date, CIUW, with support from sponsors, partners, and local donors, has served over 300 expectant mothers and families in our community. “I want to send my thanks and appreciation to everyone who made today possible for me and all the other mothers in our community,” said a past Community Baby Shower participant. “It is people like you who help make the world a better place. I am very thankful for all the vendors who provided helpful information and all the gifts.
