Summary: Saint Barnabas’s Memorial Episcopal Church of Falmouth will take “Ashes to Go” to Main Street in Falmouth on Ash Wednesday, March 5, joining a nationwide network of churches taking part in the non-traditional outreach program. Standing in front of Saint Barnabas’s at 91 Main Street, The Rev. Will Mebane, rector, The Rev. Everett Perine, and The David Rider, associate priests, will offer people on the street and passers-by in vehicles the opportunity to have ashes placed on their foreheads, which is the same ritual offered at Ash Wednesday services. This ancient Lenten symbol signifies mortality and the promise of divine redemption. “Ash Wednesday is more than the service in a church building,” said the Rev. Mebane. “We want to remind people as they go about their daily lives that God loves and forgives them. Our hope is to nurture and strengthen them for their personal journeys. We are continuing this meaningful Lenten tradition at Saint Barnabas’s because past experiences indicate this is something people desire and need,” he also said. “So, we should be where the people are.”
