The Cahoon Museum of American Art today announced the appointment of Leeann Ream as the organization’s Curator. “We are so happy to have Leeann join us in this important position,” said Cahoon Museum Executive Director & CEO Sarah Johnson. “Her deep knowledge and love of American art, as well as her experience in collections and visitor services, will make an important contribution to moving the Cahoon Museum into the next phase of its success.” Johnson noted that for the eight years she has acted as both Executive Director and Curator, so Ream’s hiring represents the first time the museum has had a dedicated curator on staff. Ream has enjoyed a successful career in museums throughout the Midwest, including stints at the Toledo Museum of Art, Chicago History Museum, and most recently in Wisconsin as Assistant Curator at the Logan Museum at Beloit College as well as Postgraduate Fellow for the Center for Collections Care. Her curatorial interests have been in art focused on issues of gender, labor, and Indigenous art. She is also skilled at collections management and interpreting art to the public. “I am excited to contribute to the Cahoon Museum, which is such a gem of a museum so important to Cape Cod and beyond,” said Ream. “The story of Ralph and Martha Cahoon is significant in American folk art history, which makes the museum, which is located in their home studio, a special place.” Ream’s hire culminates a nationwide search conducted begun last fall by Dan Yaeger, Senior Search Consultant for Museum Search & Reference, an executive placement firm specializing in the North American museum field. About the Cahoon Museum of American Art The Cahoon Museum was established in 1984 in the home studio of famed folk artists Ralph and Martha Cahoon. Today it is a dynamic cultural hub on Cape Cod dedicated to cultivating art from contemporary artists who connect with New England’s heritage and the wider story of American art. Open to the public between March and December, the museum presents a robust schedule of exhibitions, public programs, and events that enriches the lives of the Cape’s summer visitors and permanent residents alike. https://cahoonmuseum.org
