Comcast Donates 100 Laptops to Falmouth Service Center as Cape Cod Families Go Back to School

Comcast donated 100 laptops to the Falmouth Service Center, an organization that works to improve the quality of life for Cape Cod families in need. Residents received the computers at the Falmouth Service Center’s annual back-to-school event.

This donation is part of Project UP, Comcast’s $1 billion commitment to advance digital equity through programs and community partnerships that connect people to the Internet, advance economic mobility and open doors for the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, storytellers and creators.

“We’re delighted with this generous gift from Comcast,” said Kerin Delaney, Executive Director of the Falmouth Service Center. “Connecting individuals and families we serve with new laptops will help local residents most in need of assistance.”

Numerous local residents expressed their delight with the laptop donation. Samantha T., a mother of three, exclaimed, “For me?! The Mom? You have no idea how wonderful this is. I’m going back to school too, but my laptop is broken. This will make my life so much better!”
Another Mom shared, “It has always been my dream to have my own computer. You have no idea how much this means to me.”

Comcast also recently announced $80,000 in digital equity grants to Falmouth-based organizations, to support Digital Navigator programs. Digital Navigators are trusted individuals affiliated with local nonprofits, educational institutions or governmental organizations who are trained to help people learn how to get online, use devices and acquire digital skills.

“Whether it’s supporting local nonprofits or investing in our next-generation network – our commitment to building a future of unlimited possibilities for the community is unmatched,” said Carolyne Hannan, Senior Vice President of Comcast’s New England Region. “We are proud to support the Falmouth Service Center and to help accelerate digital equity efforts in the community.”

In addition to partnering with local nonprofits, Comcast turbo-charged its next-generation network in Falmouth earlier this year, with 2 gigabits-per-second (Gbps) download speeds and up to 10x faster upload speeds now available to all customers in Falmouth over the connections already existing in homes and businesses.

Comcast is deeply committed to advancing digital equity in the communities it serves. Since its inception in 2011, Comcast’s Internet Essentials has connected more than 10 million low-income Americans to broadband service at home, including more than 620,000 in Massachusetts. Additionally, Comcast has launched more than 1,250 Lift Zones in community centers nationwide – with 76 locations in Massachusetts alone – to provide students and families with free, high-speed WiFi and digital skills training. Comcast also has 15 Digital Navigator programs throughout Massachusetts.
