16th Annual Cape Cod Quahog Day

“Doug the Quahog” predicts 72 days of sunshine ahead!

June 20, 2024 (Bourne, MA) – Visitors and residents of the Cape have much to look forward to as we usher in the summer of 2024. At this afternoon’s 16th Annual Quahog Day, the Cape’s beloved meteorological mollusk, “Doug the Quahog”, brought bright news with a forecast of 72 days of sunshine on tap.

Today’s event was held at The Chart Room in Bourne with stunning views of the marina. WBZ-TV Chief Meteorologist Eric Fisher was on hand to host the festivities for the second year in a row– a fitting emcee to deliver a weather forecast to the dozens of spectators in attendance.

Doug, who arrived at the ceremony by boat along with his “Quahog Security” team, secretly whispered his weather forecast to Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce CEO Paul Niedzwiecki. The news of 72 days of sun was greeted with a roaring cheer from the crowd.

“This forecast is great news for our visitors, residents and business community,” said Niedzwiecki. “I think we can all look forward to another 71 glorious beach days much like today. This is the epitome of a Cape Cod day.”

Quahog Day was conceived by the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce in 2009 and has since become a rite of passage into summer. After the quirky ceremony, guests celebrated with refreshments from The Chart Room, including their famed mudslides. Lemonadio’s Cindy G provided the musical entertainment. Limited edition 2024 Quahog Day t-shirts were also available for purchase, featuring a design created by Cape Cod Regional Technical High School student Alexis Altaffer.
