Hyannis, Mass., December 4, 2023 – Cape Abilities, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating opportunities for individuals with disabilities on Cape Cod, is pleased to announce that Molly Karlson has been elected as chairperson of its board of directors. Karlson has been an active member of the Cape Abilities board since 2019 and has previously served as the board’s vice chair and the chair of the Investment Committee. “Molly’s innovative approach, eye for efficiencies, and dedication to the mission will make her an outstanding board chair,” said Kim McElholm, President and CEO of Cape Abilities. “I look forward to working closely with Molly, and I extend my gratitude to Marion Broidrick for her leadership in this role over the last several years.” Broidrick had previously served as the board’s chairperson, leading steadily while keeping the organization’s mission at the forefront. With her term ending in 2023, Broidrick will remain on the board of directors as vice chair for the next year. “From an early age, I saw how wonderful it is to have a meaningful role in one’s community,” said Karlson. “Being part of Cape Abilities has given me great joy, and I am excited about my new role as board chair. I look forward to continuing our work to create opportunities for people of all abilities to live, work, and thrive on Cape Cod.” Karlson is the Vice President and Investment Officer at Fiduciary Trust. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, gardening, and beekeeping. Karlson also sits on the board of the Association to Preserve Cape Cod (APCC) and spends time volunteering for various other nonprofits doing important work in the community. About Cape Abilities Founded in 1968, Cape Abilities is a 501 (c) (3) Massachusetts nonprofit organization whose mission is to support individuals with disabilities on Cape Cod by educating, counseling and providing residential, therapeutic, social and employment supports that empower individuals to achieve meaningful and valued roles in the community. The organization serves all of Cape Cod and has program centers in Hyannis and Falmouth, and operates two social enterprises, Cape Abilities Farm in Dennis and Cape Abilities Thrift in West Yarmouth.
