Back by popular demand, Curtis on Tour returns to Highfield with a dynamic program that explores musical works through the ages. Curtis on Tour is the Nina von Maltzahn global touring initiative of the Curtis Institute of Music. Grounded in the school’s “learn by doing” philosophy, tours feature extraordinary emerging artists alongside celebrated alumni and faculty. In addition to performances, musicians offer master classes, educational programs, and community engagement activities while on tour. Curtis on Tour also manages solo engagements for Curtis artists with professional orchestras and presenters. Since the program was established in 2008, Curtis on Tour ensembles have performed more than 375 concerts in over 100 cities in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. The musicians: Elissa Lee Koljonen, one of the most celebrated violinists of her generation, has thrilled audiences in over one hundred cities throughout the world. She was the first recipient of the prestigious Henryk Szeryng Foundation Award and silver medalist of the Carl Flesch International Violin Competition. She has performed in some of the world's most important venues throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, and appears regularly at festivals around the globe. Her playing has been hailed by the Helsingin Sanomat (Helsinki) as "sparkling, sensual and personal." A violist of international reputation, Roberto Díaz is president and CEO of the Curtis Institute of Music. As a soloist, he collaborates with leading conductors throughout the world. He has also worked with important 20th- and 21st-century composers, such as Krzysztof Penderecki, Jennifer Higdon, and Roberto Sierra. He is a member of the Díaz Trio, and performs in chamber music series and festivals worldwide, His many recordings include a Grammy-winning performance of the Jennifer Higdon Viola Concerto. He was the principal viola of the Philadelphia Orchestra, the principal viola of the National Symphony under Mstislav Rostropovich, and was a member of the Boston Symphony and the Minnesota Orchestras. He is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music and the Curtis Institute of Music, where he continues to serve on the faculty. He enjoys collaborating with young musicians and providing invaluable opportunities to artists at the beginning of their careers. Christine Lee is an accomplished and versatile cello artist with exceptional talent. She was recently selected as the newest female member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She has had success in international competitions and released her debut album in May 2021. She is a dedicated educator who shares her love of music with students and has a commitment to social responsibility, fundraising to build a mobile library for underprivileged children in North Philadelphia and supporting international causes. Pianist Amy Yang balances an active career as soloist, chamber musician, and pedagogue. Her numerous collaborators include Roberto Díaz, Miriam Fried, and the St. Paul chamber orchestra among others. She has appeared as a soloist with many orchestras and has appeared in prestigious venues such as the Carnegie Recital Hall, Ravinia, Ojai music festival, Cal Performances, and Chamber Music Northwest, among others. At the Curtis Institute of Music, she is the Associate Dean of Piano Studies and Artistic Initiatives. Ms. Yang is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, the Juilliard School, and the Yale School of Music, and joined the Curtis faculty in 2011.
