Highfield Hall & Gardens is pleased to celebrate Pride Month! Kick off Pride month and learn about PFLAG on their 50th anniversary. Joe Lima, President of PFLAG Cape Cod since 2019, will talk about PFLAG, their history, mission, and vision. Originally an acronym for “Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays”, PFLAG now encompasses even more as the largest organization in the US for parents, families, and allies to provide support and resources as well as education and advocacy. The local PFLAG chapter is active up and down the Cape, providing valuable resources, offering a supportive community, hosting a podcast, and awarding scholarships to high school seniors who have been advocates for equality. Whether you’re already involved in LGBTQ+ matters or want to learn more, please join us for this presentation to celebrate our community. As Joe says: “We welcome anyone and everyone who would like to be a part of our community.” Joe Lima started attending PFLAG Cape Cod support meetings back in the early 1990s, in hopes of getting advice on how to have the coming out conversation with his mother and father. At PFLAG meetings he met a wide range of people, including parents of other kids who had come out and he received advice and support. President since November 2019 and a residential designer by profession, Joe and his husband John have been together since 1991 and married since 2011 and live in Osterville. This program is free, but we invite you to register online for planning purposes. www.highfieldhallandgardens.org GALLERY HOURS: Tuesday – Friday, 10 am – 4 pm Saturday, Sunday 10 am – 2 pm Monday, closed Grounds open daily, year-round from dawn to dusk. About Highfield Hall & Gardens The house is a rare surviving example of transitional Stick Style architecture, containing beautiful gardens located in the heart of Falmouth, Massachusetts. It is a unique combination of a historic house, expansive gardens and trails, and a vibrant cultural center. Built in 1878 as the summer home for Boston's Beebe family, the house sits on 5.5 pristine acres surrounded by nearly 400 acres of conservation land and public walking trails. Highfield Hall & Gardens is not your typical historic estate. It is an example of a historic building saved by grassroots community organizing. An effort of tenacity and vision that continues as new research on the structure and its story of the people who lived here add to the building's significance. It offers world-class music, international art exhibitions, culinary classes, family programs, and year- round special events. For more information, visit www.highfieldhallandgardens.org. Mission Highfield Hall & Gardens' mission is to honor the beauty and historic significance of the house and grounds by providing high-quality artistic, cultural, and educational programs for the enrichment of our community and visitors of all ages.
