The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy (AWSC) is the featured speaker at the upcoming Falmouth Newcomers Club general meeting on Thursday, February 9, at 9:30 AM. The meeting will be held at the First Congregational Church at 68 Main Street in Falmouth. The program will highlight the AWSC’s white shark research projects and how they impact conservation and public safety efforts. Attendees can view videos and photographs of this apex predator and get answers to questions about white sharks. The nonprofit AWSC’s mission is to support scientific research, improve public safety and educate the community to inspire white shark conservation. The organization provides the most comprehensive publicly available information on white sharks in the Northwest Atlantic. The Newcomers Club’s purpose is to create opportunities for eligible Falmouth residents to foster friendship through programs, social events and activities of mutual interest and to increase their knowledge of the community. The club has no religious affiliation and is open to individuals and couples who have moved to town in the past five years or who have had a recent life-changing event such as retirement, divorce or death of a partner. Annual dues are $40 per person. More information about the club and the membership form can be found at www.falmouthnewcomers.org.
