The Falmouth Public Library is looking for instructors for its Joy of Learning program this April and October. Classes are taught by volunteer lecturers on a subject they are passionate and knowledgeable about. The classes are often on academic topics (history, literature, science, the arts, religion and philosophy), but all kinds of topics are welcomed. Classes are not generally repeated from session to session, but former instructors may return to teach new classes. The format is commonly four one-hour lectures or smaller discussions during a morning or afternoon of the instructor's choice, (e.g., Mondays from 10 to 11 AM, April 1, 8, 15 and 22), but the number and length of classes can be flexible provided they begin in April or October. Course ideas need to be beginner-friendly and accessible to those with little or no knowledge of the subject. There are no tests, although there is sometimes reading outside the class. The classes are free to all, and registration is generally required. Those interested in teaching a class in the future or who know anyone who might be interested should contact Sue Henken at shenken@falmouthpubliclibrary.org or 508-457-2555, extension 2934, with contact information and course ideas. The library will contact interested parties if the proposal is a good match.
