RSVP Senior Environment Corps Volunteers conducting Home Radon Tests Cape Cod, MASS. (November 22, 2021) – RSVP Senior Environment Corps (SEC) volunteers will be conducting home radon testing for any homeowner on Cape Cod and the Islands. SEC Volunteers have been trained to perform radon tests in a way designed to provide the most accurate results. The cost of the test, including postage and a confidential lab report, is $35.00. Radon testing is available now until March 31, 2023. Testing must be done during cold weather when homes are closed up and air is not changing rapidly through open windows and doors. The Environmental Protection Agency and the Surgeon General recommend that homeowners test for the presence of radon in their homes every other year. Radon is a naturally occurring odorless gas that seeps into homes from the surrounding soil. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. Homeowners may register for a radon test by calling Elder Services at 508-394-4630 x524. AmeriCorps Seniors Staff will explain the radon testing process and complete your registration. Senior Environment Corps is a part of AmeriCorps Seniors of Cape Cod and the Islands. AmeriCorps Seniors is sponsored by Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands (ESCCI). ESCCI is a federally designated Area Agency on Aging (AAA), the state designated Aging Services Access Point (ASAP) and the Disability Resource Consortium (ADRC) for Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket counties.
