(Falmouth, Massachusetts): Highfield Hall & Gardens is partnering with members of the Wampanoag Tribal Nation and the Rotary Club of Falmouth to present the 2nd Annual Wampanoag Cultural Celebration Day, October 2, 2022, 11am-4pm at Highfield Hall & Gardens. With Massachusetts’ deep history with the Wampanoag Nation, Highfield is partnering with members of the Wampanoag Tribal Nation and Rotary of Falmouth to present a fun and educational day-long festival to celebrate and raise awareness of the culture and history of local tribes whose ancestral lands include Cape Cod, the Islands, and reach to Marshfield, the Blue Hills and parts of southeast Massachusetts. This family friendly day will include hands-on activities such as corn husk dolls, clay beads, and quahog shell rattles; The Wampanoag Singers and Dancers will be participating again this year and food trucks specializing in native fare will be on premises. There will also be gift vendors specializing in Native American crafted items. We are adding more music this year and will be a much larger and estate wide event. This event will take place throughout the Highfield Hall & Gardens estate and is open to the public free of charge to attend, and food trucks available to purchase food and beverages. We are excited to present a new educational exhibit focused on King Philips War which is a topic that has not received much publicity but part of the historical fabric of our communities. This program was made possible in part by grants from the Falmouth Rotary, The Falmouth Fund, and the Falmouth, Sandwich, and Mashpee Cultural Councils, local agencies supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency. Visit our website for more information about the exhibit & related programming - www.highfieldhallandgardens.org Gallery Hours: Tuesday – Friday, 10 am – 4 pm Saturday – Sunday, 10 am – 2 pm Grounds open daily, year-round from dawn to dusk. About Highfield Hall & Gardens The house is a rare surviving example of transitional Stick Style architecture, containing beautiful gardens located in the heart of Falmouth, Massachusetts. It is a unique combination of a historic house, expansive gardens and trails, and a vibrant cultural center. Built in 1878 as the summer home for Boston's Beebe family, the house sits on 5.5 pristine acres surrounded by nearly 400 acres of conservation land and public walking trails. Highfield Hall & Gardens is not your typical historic estate. It is an example of a historic building saved by grassroots community organizing. An effort of tenacity and vision that continues as new research on the structure and its story of the people who lived here add to the building's significance. It offers world-class music, international art exhibitions, culinary classes, family programs, and year- round special events. For more information, visit www.highfieldhallandgardens.org
