An evening of whisky, poetry, haggis, and merriment Saturday, February 5, 2022, 5:30 pm – 9:00 pm (Falmouth, Massachusetts) Move over James Joyce and step aside Shakespeare because the Bard of Scotland, Robert Burns, is once again being celebrated at Highfield Hall & Gardens. Join us for the 6th annual commemorative evening honoring the national poet of Scotland, Robert Burns (1759-1796). Enjoy a night brimming with food, music, spontaneous toasts, and shenanigans. The party will be held on Saturday, February 5, from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM. Guests for this special occasion will participate in a time-honored celebration, which includes sampling the traditional Scottish haggis, toasts of whisky, storytelling, recitation of poetry, trivia and prizes, bagpipes, and singing–all in the spirit of the poet, Rabbie Burns. Dinner will be prepared by Eat Your Heart Out Catering with choices of hearty chicken stew, roast salmon, or vegetarian option. Music provided by Sonnay Fiddlers, and Stanley and Grimm. The cocktail hour will showcase whisky from around the world. Robert Burns, a source of pride and inspiration for Scots the world over, is considered one of the founders of the Romantic movement. He wrote the timeless classic "Auld Lang Syne," (loosely translated to mean "for old times' sake")—often sung on New Year’s Eve as well as at graduations and other occasions of farewell. To end the evening, a rendition of "Auld Lang Syne" will be performed for all to sing along. Burns Night Suppers were started by the poet's friends shortly after his death and have become one of Scotland's most beloved holidays. Celebrations are held in late winter and marked by close friends and good cheer.
