Local award recognizes agents of positive change inspiring a sustainable and healthy environment Yarmouth, MA (9/20/21) - CARE for the Cape & Islands is accepting nominations from the community for the 2021 Stewardship Awards until October 1st, 2021. Nominations are requested for the Business/Organization Stewardship Award and Youth Stewardship Award. The awards will be presented on November 4, during the CARE About a Clean Cape & Islands Summit. The CARE Business/Organization Stewardship Award recognizes an organization’s commitment to protecting the natural beauty of Cape Cod and the Islands. Applicants must have adopted day-to-day practices that fit CARE’s mission to preserve and enhance its natural environment, culture, or history. The Youth Award is presented to an individual or youth group who is age 18 or younger and exhibits the same commitment to caring for Cape Cod and the Islands. Director Jill Talladay said, “The Cape and Islands are fortunate to have so many individuals and organizations doing amazing things to take care of this special place. Founded in 2012, it is the Cape and Islands’ first travelers’ philanthropy initiative. CARE seeks to encourage, support, and create opportunities for visitors and residents to donate their “time, talent, and treasure” to help preserve and protect our region’s exquisite natural beauty, plant and wildlife habitats, Cape & Islands culture, and history. Since 2012, CARE has ? Activated 4,200+ volunteer hours (delivering $100k of value to the community) to clean up and improve community infrastructure. ? Funded 50+ projects, including water filling stations, cigarette butt collectors, historical trail development and other amenities that benefit all of us. ? Convened more than 70 organizations in the Cape Cod Stewardship Collaborative to coordinate public and private efforts to address challenges of solid waste and plastic pollution that impacts our land and marine environments.
