Highfield Hall Hosts Its Fourth Annual Robert Burns Supper

An evening of whisky, poetry, haggis, and merriment

(Falmouth, Massachusetts) Move over James Joyce and step aside Shakespeare because the Bard of Scotland, Robert Burns, is once again being celebrated at Highfield Hall & Gardens. Join us for the 4th commemorative evening honoring the national poet of Scotland, Robert Burns (1759-1796). Enjoy a night brimming with food, music, spontaneous toasts, and shenanigans. The party will be held on Saturday, February 29, from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM.

Guests for this special occasion will participate in a time-honored celebration, which includes eating a traditional Scottish meal of ceremonial haggis, toasts of whisky, storytelling, recitation of poetry,
trivia and prizes, bagpipes, fiddles, and singing–all in the spirit of the poet, Rabbie Burns.

The Scottish fare will be created and served by Eat Your Heart Out Catering of Falmouth, Massachusetts. The dinner will consist of Salmon on Tottie Blinis with Crème Fraiche and Chive hors-d'oeuvres followed by Cullen Skink Smoked Fish Chowder with Potato and Leeks, Family Style Haggis, Scottsman Shephard's Stew chunk Lamb and Beef with Vegetables, Neeps, and Whipped Potatoes or Fire-Roasted Vegetable Polenta Cake with Roasted Cauliflower, Butternut Squash, Red Onions, Edamame, Red Pepper, Zucchini on top of Herb Polenta Cake, and for dessert a Whisky Bread Pudding.

Robert Burns, a source of pride and inspiration for Scots the world over, is considered one of the founders of the Romantic movement. He wrote the timeless classic "Auld Lang Syne," (loosely translated to mean "for old times' sake")—often sung on New Year’s Eve as well as at graduations and other occasions of farewell. To end the evening, a rendition of "Auld Lang Syne" will be performed for all to sing along.

Burns Night Suppers were started by the poet's friends shortly after his death, and have become one of Scotland's most beloved holidays. Celebrations are held in late winter and marked by close friends and good cheer.
