(Hyannis, July 18, 2019) The Family Birthplace of Cape Cod Healthcare will celebrate World Breastfeeding Week with special community events at Cape Cod Hospital and Falmouth Hospital. World Breastfeeding Week is a global initiative coordinated and organized by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA). This annual event is held August 1-7 and this year’s theme, as set by WABA, is “Empower Parents, Enable Breastfeeding.” The Family Birthplace at Falmouth Hospital will host a public event on August 1, from 10 a.m. 12 noon in the Burwell Conference Room at Falmouth Hospital featuring: • A talk by Donna Kelly Williams, RN, president of the Massachusetts Nurses Association, on newer family-friendly state legislation and what it means for parents today • Baby and Me Yoga • Nutrition tips for moms and babies • Babywearing demonstrations • WIC community and educational resources The Family Birthplace at Cape Cod Hospital will host an event on August 2, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Lorusso Conference Center at Cape Cod Hospital featuring: • Infant sign language • Bra fittings • Car seat technicians • Chair massage This event also celebrates the kickoff of Cape Cod Hospital’s final stage along the pathway towards Baby Friendly designation, a global initiative to recognize facilities that have successfully implemented best practices that support breastfeeding and mother-baby bonding.
