(Hyannis, August 1, 2018) Cape Cod Hospital and Falmouth Hospital are in urgent need of blood donations. The hospitals must have at least one week’s worth of blood on hand at all times. Since each unit collected or purchased will only last between 35 to 42 days, it is a constant challenge to maintain sufficient supply. Numerous blood drives are being held across Cape Cod in August to benefit Cape Cod Healthcare (CCHC). The majority of them will be held in the CCHC Blood Mobile, which is located in the parking lot of sponsoring businesses and organizations. All blood collected at CCHC Blood Drives stays on Cape Cod to help our families, friends and neighbors. All those who donate to a CCHC Blood Drive in the month of August will receive a complimentary movie pass. A special thanks to members of our area police departments who, during the months of July and August, will join in a friendly competition to see which department can donate the most blood for the Cape Cod community. Walk-ins are welcome at all CCHC blood drives. The Nicholas G. Xiarhos Blood Donor Center at Cape Cod Hospital is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday for whole blood and platelet donations. To make an appointment to donate blood, please visit www.capecodhealth.org/giveblood or call 508-86BLOOD.
