SOUTH YARMOUTH – The Cape Cod Foundation has recently been selected to administer the DY Dolphin Dash Fund to support the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School (DYHS) Athletic Department. The Dash, a 5K Road Race/Walk, started in 2016 to raise funds for DYHS student athletes. “Each year, students must pay a $100 sports fee to join any of the school’s athletic teams,” says Dr. Paul Funk, DYHS Assistant Principal and Athletic Director. “While that may not sound like a lot to some, many families need help covering that fee, so we organized the run to offset the cost.” About 400 students compete on multiple DYHS teams during the academic year. Funk said the funds raised from the inaugural event in 2016 helped reduce the fee per student to $50. Last year’s run covered the full cost for participating students. Funk hopes, as the annual run and companion dinner gain momentum, the fundraiser will be able to continue to fully cover student fees and other departmental needs, such as equipment or transportation costs. “The DY Dolphin Dash is a great way for the community to ensure young people have valuable extracurricular opportunities,” says Kristin O’Malley, President and CEO of The Cape Cod Foundation. “We are honored to partner on this effort to help remove barriers for students that want to participate in athletics.” The next DY Dolphin Dash will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018.
