HYANNIS—Turn the clock back to the eighties when big ballads, big guitar solos and even bigger hair ruled. Broadway’s smash hit musical, “Rock of Ages,” is coming to the Cape with five benefit performances May 12-14 at the Tilden Arts Center on the Cape Cod Community College campus. The five-time Tony Award nominee combines a hilarious, rocker-boy-meets-small-town-girl story with a riotous rock concert that pays tribute to the best hair metal bands of the decade: Journey, Bon Jovi, Foreigner, Starship, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Twisted Sister—and others. Chart-topping hits include “We Built This City,” “I Wanna Rock,” “Wanted Dead or Alive”, “We’re Not Gonna Take It,” “Don’t Stop Believin.” “Can’t Fight This Feeling,” “Hit Me with Your Best Shot” and “Any Way You Want It.” The cast includes Broadway stars Sam Dowling (Drew) and Anthony Logan Cole (Lonny) who have both toured nationally with “Rock of Ages” productions, Joel Mingo (Dennis), the lead singer and guitarist from “Miles from Home” and NYC artist Brady Cudmore (Franz), who just produced his fifth album, “Homme Dangereux.” The production also brings local talent like Barnstable resident Izzy Archer (Sherry) to the stage. There will be two opportunities to mix and mingle with the cast: at a pre-concert party before the Saturday evening performance and at a Talk Back after the Sunday matinee. The production is presented by Cape Cod Child Development and benefits the organization’s programs for local children and families. Ten percent of the proceeds also benefits Cape Conservatory. Performances run May 12-14. Tickets are tax deductible. The cost is $20 for Students (suggested ages 14 & up) and $50-$65 for adults. Purchase online at www.cccdp.org/children/events
