SOUTH YARMOUTH, MA (March 7, 2017) – Nonprofit leaders from across the Cape and Islands came together this morning at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod for the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network’s annual Cape & Islands regional meeting. Throughout the morning, nonprofits shared best practices for advocacy, outlined issues important to the sector, and brainstormed on how to respond to state and federal policy issues impacting the sector. The Cape and Islands regional meeting was presented in partnership with The Cape Cod Foundation. “We want to thank The Cape Cod Foundation for partnering with us to make this meeting a meaningful event and also to thank our sponsors Eastern Insurance and The Hanover Insurance Group,” said Jim Klocke, CEO of the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network (MNN). “As the voice of the nonprofit sector, it is critical that MNN gets out to meet with nonprofit leaders to exchange ideas, learn about regional issues affecting nonprofits, and prepare for policy issues and trends impacting the sector. Today we gained invaluable insight from our Cape and Island colleagues into the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for the nonprofit sector.” “We were honored to partner with MNN on their Cape and Islands regional meeting,” stated Kristin O’Malley, President and CEO of The Cape Cod Foundation. “There are a number of significant issues at both the state and federal level that impact the nonprofit sector and people are anxious to come together to discuss how to collaboratively and effectively voice support for their organizations and their constituents. We thank MNN for initiating the conversations and for being a strong advocate for the entire Massachusetts nonprofit sector.” Each year, the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network holds eight regional meetings across the state to bring together leaders from the nonprofit sector. The meetings are an opportunity for local nonprofit leaders to network and discuss issues facing the sector. This year’s meetings focused on several policy issues that will have direct impact on Massachusetts including the Baker Administration’s proposed health care assessment for employers, PILOTs, repeal of the Johnson Amendment, and potential changes to the charitable giving incentive. This year’s meetings have already attracted over 120 nonprofit leaders. MNN’s 2017 regional meetings are being presented by Eastern Insurance and The Hanover Insurance Group.
