Do you want to become a more effective civic activist? Have you ever wished you could be taught the skills you need to become active in civic affairs and interact with elected officials? Learn how by attending a free, interactive workshop entitled Civic Engagement 101 on Tuesday, March 7 at 7pm. Instructor Stefanie Coxe will lead the workshop, which will include a engagement with local politicians: Representatives Dylan Fernandes and David Vieira, plus Chair, Doug Jones and Selectman Megan English Braga of the Town of Falmouth Board of Selectmen. The workshop will take place in the Hermann Foundation Room on the library’s lower level. Doors will open at 6:30pm and light refreshments will be provided. This event has been organized by a group of politically-active Upper Cape residents responding to requests for this type of education. Even if you are considering becoming involved in advocacy work for the first time, this interactive workshop will teach you how best to use your time and efforts in the new political landscape. Learn how to build the confidence needed to engage with politicians and their staff, how to establish credibility, and how to effectively convey your concerns and request actions. Following Ms. Coxe’s illustrated presentation she will interact with local politicians based on the issues of interest to workshop attendees. Our local representatives will have an opportunity to explain how you can interact with them, which issues they handle, and which need to be addressed elsewhere. You will leave with both knowledge and materials that will help you to advocate about issues that concern you. Instructor Stefanie Cox has 15 years of combined political and non-profit experience. She served as an aide to two Massachusetts state representatives and a U.S. Congressman, and as Interim Executive Director of a Cape Cod non-profit. She also has extensive political campaign experience. Learn more about her work at Nexuswerx at http://www.nexuswerx.com/learn-to-lobby.htm.
