(Hyannis, February 17, 2017) Nine local physicians will put on their dancing shoes on Saturday, March 4, 2017 to compete in support of cancer services. “Dancing With the Docs Cape Cod” will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. at Willowbend Country Club in Mashpee and is a fundraiser for Cape Wellness Collaborative (CWC). The event is sponsored by CWC and Cape Cod Healthcare. The physicians are paired with local professional dancers and have been practicing for months, refining their technique and honing their skills. A trio of judges at the formal, black tie event will score the dancers, and their votes, combined with public votes online or via texts, will determine the mirror ball winner. Competing in the event are: • Jennifer Crook, MD • Kathryn Dalton, DO • Marc Fater, MD • Patty Fater, MD • Jose Fernandez, MD • Mary Ann Harwood, MD, • Jeffrey Martin, MD • Molly Sullivan, MD • Darijan Suton, PhD Cape Wellness Collaborative was founded in 2014 and began serving clients in 2015. The non-profit provides free complementary, integrative therapies (including massage, acupuncture, Reiki and nutrition counseling) to people with cancer. Founder and director Sarah Swain said she and her group are excited about their first gala fundraising event. "This memorable evening is going to be a blast and the funds raised are going to have a positive impact on people in our community facing cancer,” she said. “The participating doctors and their dance pros have been so generous with their time and talents and can't wait to show off their new moves!" The ability to refer her patients to CWC has been very gratifying, said Dr. Dalton. “As a surgeon, I see a lot of cancer patients and I really believe in the mission of Cape Wellness Collaborative,” she said. “Something as simple as fatigue, there’s no medication we can give them and we can’t surgically take it out, but if they go for Reiki therapy or acupuncture or yoga, they come back and say ‘my fatigue is so much better.’” Cape Cod Healthcare Senior Vice President of Marketing, Communications and Business Development Patrick Kane said he is “thrilled” to be serving as a judge for the Dancing With the Docs Cape Cod event. “Cape Cod Healthcare and Cape Wellness Collaborative have teamed up to provide our cancer patients with extra care by providing access to complementary medical services to round out our model of care for mind, body and spirit. It is our hope that one day all of our approximately 1,400 patients diagnosed with cancer each year will be offered a CWC card,” he said. “Our physicians have shown great competitive style as well as compassion for their patients by working so hard on this worthwhile fundraiser.” Viewers can vote online at www.dwtdcapecod.com or can text CCDOCS to 855-735-2437. Votes are $10 each and benefit CWC. There are three ways to take part as a viewer and voter; in person at the event at Willowbend, or at one of the viewing parties, or by watching the show on the Cape Cod Community Media channel.
