(Hyannis, June 21, 2016) – Cape Cod Healthcare is pleased to announce that Donald A. Guadagnoli, MD, has been named Associate Dean for Medical Education at Cape Cod Healthcare by the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS). Dr. Guadagnoli, who is Chief Medical Officer at CCHC, was also appointed an assistant professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UMMS. In his role as Associate Dean, Dr. Guadagnoli will serve as the official liaison and site leader for the UMMS educational program at Cape Cod Hospital, a partnership that was announced last year. Through the program, students at UMMS train under CCHC physicians and complete clerkships at Cape Cod Hospital in different specialty areas. The first cohort of students began clerkship rotations at the hospital in January in general surgery, surgical subspecialties, OB/GYN and psychiatry. “Dr. Guadagnoli has been an instrumental partner since the inception of our affiliation,” said Terence R. Flotte, MD, Executive Deputy Chancellor, Provost and Dean of the UMass School of Medicine. “As we prepare to increase the size of our School of Medicine classes beginning in the upcoming academic year, our affiliation with CCH will afford our students with high-quality clinical experiences.” UMass School of Medicine is located in Worcester, MA, and is the state’s only public medical school and an integral part of the five-campus UMass system. Since graduating its first class of physicians in 1974, the medical school has emerged as one of the nation’s best medical schools for primary education. It annually ranks in the top 10 percent of medical schools for primary care training, according to U.S. News and World Report. “Don is the perfect person to serve as academic leader for the UMMS site at CCH,” said Michael K. Lauf, President and CEO of Cape Cod Healthcare. “He is well-known and admired by his colleagues as an extremely knowledgeable, accessible and compassionate physician, who gives of his time and talents to not only our UMMS students, but our entire medical staff.” A board certified obstetrician/gynecologist, Dr. Guadagnoli has extensive background in chronic disease management, quality initiatives, insurance products and safety. His medical degree is from The George Washington University and he did his residency at Brown University. Significantly, more than 60 percent of UMMS graduates begin their career in Massachusetts, a fact makes the UMMS affiliation important for the Cape Cod region, said Mr. Lauf. “This partnership gives our patients and the people of Cape Cod assurances that their community healthcare system is continually searching for an attracting the latest and best medical expertise,” he said. Cape Cod Healthcare is the leading provider of healthcare services for residents and visitors of Cape Cod. With more than 450 physicians, 4,500 employees and 1,100 volunteers, Cape Cod Healthcare has two acute care hospitals, the Cape’s leading provider of homecare and hospice services (VNA), a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility, an assisted living facility, the Cape’s only local laboratory service and numerous health programs.
