(Hyannis, March 29, 2018) The recent inclement weather has impacted blood collection at Cape Cod Hospital and Falmouth Hospital, which are in urgent need of blood donations. The hospitals must have at least one week’s worth of blood on hand at all times. Since each unit collected or purchased will only last between 35 to 42 days, it is a constant challenge to maintain sufficient supply. Numerous blood drives are being held across Cape Cod in April to benefit Cape Cod Healthcare (CCHC). The majority of them will be held in the CCHC Blood Mobile, which is located in the parking lot of sponsoring businesses and organizations. All blood collected at CCHC Blood Drives stays on Cape Cod to help our families, friends and neighbors. Donors at any April blood drive, with one exception, will receive a complimentary movie pass. Donors at the April 18 blood drive at the Whydah Pirate Museum will receive a coupon for discounted admission to the museum. Walk-ins are welcome at all blood drives. To make an appointment to donate blood, please visit www.capecodhealth.org/giveblood or call 508-86BLOOD. The Blood Center at Cape Cod Hospital is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for walk-in blood donations.
