FALMOUTH, MA—Highfield Hall & Gardens is excited to host The Rum Soaked Crooks again and welcome special guest Jon Campbell, as part of our Music Under the Tent series this summer. Tom Goux, Dan Lanier, and Jacek Sulanowski, known collectively as “The Rum-Soaked Crooks,” present programs laden with musical treasures culled from remote ports of the world and New England’s sandy shores. This local group is comprised of a full band including guitar, concertina, accordion, fiddle, and more! The Crooks deliver salty songs, diaphanous ditties and roiling recitations collected from many ports of call, past and present. Their repertoire spans three centuries of seafaring melody and verse, featuring an exceptional sampling of Cape and Islands sea songs and poetry. The Crook’s music has delighted audiences in New England, across the country and in Europe in festival and concert settings, coffee house and folk music societies and, most memorably, onboard the notable historic vessels U.S. Frigate Constitution, Schooner Ernestina, Charles Morgan, Mayflower, Balclutha and Bark Elissa. They are joined by special guest musician, Jon Campbell. The days of sail are long over but life along the Waterfront in New England continues on. These days it's more about commercial fishing, tourists, regional cuisine, the eternal cranky Yankee, and an oyster bar next to every Starbucks. Jon's music addresses life as we live it along the coast. With songs sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, a listener gets a look inside this world from someone who happily resides there. Jon has performed from the Canadian Maritimes to Kodiak Alaska. His songs have been performed and recorded by musicians in the US and Ireland. He has recorded numerous albums with other musicians and as a solo artist. Jon modestly opines: “When you live in an interesting place where interesting people are doing interesting things, all you have to do is make it rhyme.” Music Under the Tent: The Rum Soaked Crooks & special guest Jon Campbell Sunday, August 8th @ 4:00-6:00 pm $30 nonmembers/ $20 members Visit our website to register and for more information – www.highfieldhallandgardens.org Gallery Hours: Tuesday – Friday, 10 am – 4 pm Saturday – Sunday, 10 am – 2 pm Grounds open daily, year-round from dawn to dusk. About Highfield Hall & Gardens The house is a rare surviving example of transitional Stick Style architecture, containing beautiful gardens located in the heart of Falmouth, Massachusetts. It is a unique combination of a historic house, expansive gardens and trails, and a vibrant cultural center. Built in 1878 as the summer home for Boston's Beebe family, the house sits on 5.5 pristine acres surrounded by nearly 400 acres of conservation land and public walking trails. Highfield Hall & Gardens is not your typical historic estate. It is an example of a historic building saved by grassroots community organizing. An effort of tenacity and vision that continues as new research on the structure and its story of the people who lived here add to the building's significance. It offers world-class music, international art exhibitions, culinary classes, family programs, and year- round special events.
