Each year Cape Associates designs and builds an extravagant children’s playhouse, which is donated to a local nonprofit to raise funds for their cause. This year, Cape Associates decided to replicate the historic Elizabeth Tilley shallop, a small boat carried over on the Mayflower and used to enter what is now known as Provincetown Harbor. Mid-Cape Home Centers has donated the materials for this build and has offered to assist the beneficiary, Cape Cod Children’s Museum, with raffle sales. Located in Mashpee, Cape Cod Children’s Museum has served the families of Cape Cod for 30 years via special exhibits and programming. The museum offers reduced memberships and nominal fees for military families or those receiving benefits for housing and food insecurity as well as scholarships for memberships. They recently began a program with the Department of Children and Families to subsidize admission for children in the foster care system. The children can go with a foster parent, a social worker, or even a supervised visit with their biological parent. “With fear of the local museum not surviving this year full of countless unforeseen challenges, Mid-Cape and Cape Associates decided on Cape Cod Children’s Museum as the beneficiary of the 2021 playhouse,” said Mid-Cape in a statement. The Boat Playhouse is currently on view at Mid-Cape Home Centers in South Dennis and will be traveling to all Mid-Cape locations and the Cape Cod Children’s Museum for viewing.
