December 23, 2020 (Hyannis, MA) - Cape Abilities, Cape Cod's respected non-profit agency with over 50 years of distinguished service in Barnstable County, is pleased to welcome The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod Charitable Foundation Trust (The Coop Foundation), one of the Cape's leading charitable institutions, as the Inaugural Funder of Cape Abilities' Adopt A Home fundraising program. The onset of the COVID-19 coronavirus crisis this past spring presented great challenges for Cape Abilities to maintain and support its sixteen Cape Cod residences and its participants and staff who live in these year-round, life-long homes. The creation of the Adopt a Home program in the midst of this pandemic is a reflection of Cape Abilities' innovative commitment to its mission, to adapt and evolve in order to continue to provide enriching, high-quality services to men and women with a broad range of developmental and intellectual disabilities. The agency continues to serve this vulnerable community, thanks in great part to the tireless generosity of community leaders like The Coop Foundation, who were recently named Cape Abilities’ 2020 Business Partner of the Year at their Annual Meeting. The Coop Foundation has provided a two-year $20,000 grant to maintain one of Cape Abilities’ West Barnstable homes and make it more accessible for the residents who live there. "We're thrilled to be part of the growth of Cape Abilities and to be the first sponsor of the Adopt a Home program," said Lisa Oliver (r.), Chair, President and CEO of The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod. “It’s fulfilling to know these funds will make life easier for the residents and staff, especially as we are still in the midst of dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.” "Our Adopt A Home program looks to create partnerships between organizations and our Residential Homes, so we can bring individuals in our communities closer together and develop relationships that promote inclusive communities and opportunities for people of all abilities," said Cape Abilities President and CEO, Jonathan Sproul (l.). "We are beyond grateful that The Coop Foundation recognized the potential of this program and jumped at the opportunity to become our inaugural Adopt a Home partner" For civic organizations, businesses, and individuals, investing in Cape Abilities’ Adopt a Home program provides a unique partnership opportunity to make a lasting and meaningful difference in the lives of the people with disabilities. Adopt-A-Home partners take on projects that range from landscaping and home decorating to social engagement activities. With dedicated community partners like The Coop Foundation, the agency is able to create and sustain critical programs like Adopt a Home that provide a healthy and safe environment now and in the years to come. "We believe this program has incredible potential," Sproul continued, "and we are hopeful that The Coop Foundation’s leadership inspires other businesses in our community to become Adopt-A-Home partners as well.” For more information on the Adopt-A-Home program, please visit www.CapeAbilities.org/AdoptaHome About Cape Abilities: Cape Abilities is a 501 (c) (3) Massachusetts nonprofit organization whose mission is to serve individuals with disabilities by educating, counseling, providing residential, social, therapeutic and employment supports so as to empower them to achieve meaningful and valued roles in society.
