The Falmouth Chamber of Commerce has partnered with FCTV to stage and film some of the favorite events that are held during the annual Holidays By The Sea Weekend, which traditionally takes place on the first full weekend in December. “We felt that it was very important to keep the spirit alive this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, especially given the feeling of isolation that so many people are experiencing,” said Falmouth Chamber President Michael Kasparian. “We were fortunate that Deb Rogers and the staff of FCTV enthusiastically embraced the idea of producing these time-honored events which we will be able to share with our Falmouth neighbors.” The Falmouth Select Board granted the Falmouth Chamber of Commerce a special events permit to stage the Christmas Parade after a COVID safe plan was submitted and approved by the town’s special events committee. “We could not have done it without the help of so many people including the select board, Falmouth police, Falmouth Fire & Rescue, Falmouth Department of Public Works, and the Falmouth harbormaster,” Mr. Kasparian said. “We also had dozens of local businesses and organizations provide sponsorship support to insure that the parade happened.” The filming of the 57th Annual Christmas Parade, dubbed “Home For The Holidays” took place at Marine Park the weekend of November 14, where participants were able to stage at a safe distance from each other. Falmouth Parade Committee co-chairwoman Michelle Marion merged the walking groups with the floats into one line which proceeded to march along the lower road with the harbor in the background while the entire parade was filmed by FCTV. Santa made his usual entrance via a lift from Patriot Party Boats and 2020-2021 Citizen of the Year Brenda Swain was able to make a grand tour thanks to the generosity of White Tie Limo. Voice over commentary and music produced by Falmouth High School Band will be added to the film which will air as “live” on Sunday, December 6, the regularly scheduled date of the parade. Thanks to the generosity of the Friends of Nobska Light, the Solstice Singers once again led Caroling at Nobska Lighthouse which was also filed by FCTV and will air over the weekend beginning on December 4. The lighthouse provided the perfect backdrop as the sun set and the moon rose during the singing. Holidays By The Sea would not be complete without the lighting of the Village Green which was also staged and filmed. Patty Erickson, co-chairwoman of the Falmouth Christmas Parade, led the countdown with the help of Santa and Susan Zavala and chamber vice president Maura Aldrich of the Falmouth Chamber. Jazzy Christmas tunes were performed by Betsy West and the Gents under the first lighting of the season. Once again, this event will be aired all month on FCTV beginning on the weekend of December 4. Still to come is the virtual edition of the Annual Jingle Jog that participants can run at their locations during the weekend of December 4 to 6. “We are extremely grateful to Jennifer Edwards and the Falmouth Road Race for lending their expertise and assistance to the chamber to insure that this event went on this year,” said Ms. Aldrich. “The response has been terrific and we still have spots left for people to register and get this year’s version of the long sleeve t-shirt.” The 2020 Holidays By The Sea Weekend events will be broadcast all month on FCTV beginning December 4 and also available of the Falmouth chamber website.
