December 1, 2020 (Hyannis, MA) - The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod observes Giving Tuesday 2020 with the donation of $10,000 to local food pantries. The 10 food pantries receiving $1,000 donations include: Falmouth Service Center; Sandwich Food Pantry; St. Vincent de Paul/Christ the King (Mashpee); The Salvation Army (Hyannis); Yarmouth Food Pantry; Hands of Hope (Dennis); The Family Pantry of Cape Cod (Harwich); Lower Cape Outreach Council (Orleans); Wellfleet Food Pantry; and Helping Our Women (Provincetown). “Food insecurity and hunger have long been a major concern on Cape Cod, but adverse economic conditions fueled by the pandemic have greatly exacerbated the problem,” said Lisa Oliver, Chair, President and CEO of The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod. “I am grateful that despite the pandemic, we were able to continue support of food pantries serving our neighbors in need.” The Coop has traditionally held an annual “Restock the Shelves” food drive in its branches, with its employees volunteering to deliver the donations to food pantries across Cape Cod on Giving Tuesday. Due to pandemic safety precautions, the food drive could not be held at the branch locations this year, but the Coop is committed to continuing the tradition with monetary donations. “It has been a challenging year for all of us, regardless of life circumstances,” said Gwynne Guzzeau, Executive Director of Helping Our Women (HOW). “The support from the team at The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod has been such a relief to me, to our staff and to our clients. The Coop’s commitment to the community -- and to HOW's mission -- eases the way for our work and helps sustain our resilience as staff.” Giving Tuesday, established in 2012, is a global generosity movement that unleashes the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and their world. The annual event is held on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving in the United States.
