The Cahoon Museum of American art announces its 30th annual Brush Off Art Auction to be held online from July 1 – July 24. The auction features the work of over 70 highly regarded regional artists presenting nearly 125 art works up for bid, including paintings, pastels, watercolors, sculpture, ceramics, basketry, and photography. Typically held on the Cotuit Village Green, this enduring Cape Cod tradition serves as the Museum’s major fundraiser. Many of the artworks included in the auction may be previewed on the Museum’s website, cahoonmuseum.org. Event sponsors include the Hower Family. “The Brush Off is an event that our community looks forward to each summer, and while we’re unable to gather this year on the Village Green, we are thrilled to host an online auction that supports both our Cape artists and the Cahoon Museum. For the first time, anyone – anywhere – can participate and bid and we are excited to offer that opportunity. I am enthusiastic about the beautiful artwork from participating artists and have confidence that this year’s Brush Off auction will be a great success,” explained Cahoon Museum Director Sarah Johnson. The auction began in 1990 as a means to call attention to the artistic excellence of Cape artists, and as an important way to raise money for the Museum, generating revenue to support excellence in exhibitions and educational programs. Participating artists donate a portion of the sales of the artworks to the Museum, with many donating 100% of the selling price. New artists this year include Adria Arch, Jodi Colella, Kimberly Sheerin, and Jackie Reeves – all of whom have recently exhibited at the Cahoon. The auction also features artists who have participated in the event since its early years including Robert Cardinal, Anne Doyle, Jane Lincoln, Susan O’Brien McLean, Carol-Jean O’Toole, Timothy Jon Struna, and Christie Velesig, among many others. The Brush Off traditionally includes artists painting en plein air and this year Betsy Payne Cook, Veasey Jackson, Karen Ryder, David Sigel, and Lynn Wallin will be painting at scenic locations around Cotuit during the month of July.
