CARE for the Cape & Islands has awarded more than $12,000 to fund a total of ten projects throughout Cape Cod and the Islands as part of its annual grant program. Proposals must meet specific criteria and fit within at least one of five funding themes including Environmental Education, Environmental Stewardship, Food and Culture, Infrastructure for Community Livability, Sense of Place. To be considered for CARE for the Cape and Islands funding an organization must be a 501c3 nonprofit and projects must directly affect visitors’ experiences. Awardees and projects selected are The African American Heritage Trail of Martha’s Vineyard - Giving Voice: The Naming Trail, Atlantic White Shark Conservancy - Environmental Stewardship Exhibit, Cape Cod Collaborative Arts Network – Landscapes of Change, Cape Cod Museum of Natural History – Water Bottle Filling Station, Cape Cod National Seashore – Multiple Dimensions of the 1620 Mayflower Landing, Friends of Monomoy Wildlife Refuge - Water Bottle Filling Station, Heritage Museums & Gardens - Bioswale Interpretive Signage, Heritage Museums & Gardens - Garden Carts, Maria Mitchell Association – COVID Operational Support, and Martha’s Vineyard Chamber Education & Charitable Fund – Martha’s Vineyard Deaf Heritage Tour. Grantees and their projects are presented at the annual CARE for the Cape & Islands Day. This year’s event was scheduled to be held May 6, at Maria Mitchell Association in Nantucket and was unfortunately canceled due to the pandemic. Instead, grantees were asked to submit a brief video about their project. To date, CARE has funded more than 50 projects throughout Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket that help to preserve and enhance the natural environment, cultural and historical treasures of the region.
