Soloists perform favorite songs for special occasions during isolating pandemic. With social distancing practices in place across the country, the Cape Conservatory has devised an innovative way to bring music to the Cape community and beyond. New musical messages, called Music-Grams, will also support the non-profit organization at a time when its financial future looks challenging. This mutually beneficial program will have professional teaching artists from the Conservatory singing or performing by request, virtually or in-person, to create a memorable moment for those celebrating a special occasion or just needing a musical lift. “Our first request was to have a vocalist sing ‘Ave Maria’ and ‘Con te partirò’ for Mother’s Day,” said Mary George, Curriculum Manager and teaching artist for the Cape Conservatory. “We have been working hard these past six weeks to find ways to ‘keep the music playing,’ so to speak. Our amazing teaching artists have stepped forward to offer their services for basically all genres and instrumentation.” All in-person performances will maintain a socially-distant vantage point, and video performances will include a personalized message to the recipient. Music-Grams will provide connection as well as a special memory in an extremely difficult time, especially for those that live alone or that are in a high-risk demographic. “Historically, the arts, and particularly music, have been used to heal and calm societies in crisis,” said George. “Music from Beethoven symphonies to Bob Dylan folk songs have been composed as a means to cope with difficult moments in our collective history. It is only fitting that we use music to comfort our community, while providing for our future as an organization.” Conservatory Music-Grams are $100 for an in-person, socially-distanced performance (such as the front yard; these are limited to the Cape Cod region) and $75 for a personalized video.
