The Cahoon Museum is buzzing with activity and all kinds of volunteer opportunities are currently available now that the busy season has kicked in. Volunteer for The Blue Trees Installation! Coming right up at the Museum is The Blue Trees environmental art installation with Konstantin Dimopoulos. We are so excited to have such a unique street-side exhibit at the Museum. You won't want to miss out on this fun project, there are so many opportunities to get involved and we need LOTS of volunteers! Consider signing up with a friend, family members, or even organizing your favorite social group to participate in this very special installation. Volunteers are needed: Tuesday, May 28 - Friday, May 31 There are two shifts available each day: 9:30am -12:00pm and 1:00pm -3:30pm Saturday, June 1, throughout the day Volunteers and children are welcome to come by the Museum to color the smaller trees and celebrate with the artist Available jobs are wide-ranging, from coloring the trees blue with paint brushes and rollers, operating the bucket lift, volunteer support, watering the trees, talking to passers-by all about the project, and more! In addition to the installation days, we also need people to swing by the Museum to help water trees from May 15 – June 15. These are going to be fun, active, memorable days at the Museum, and we’ve made sure everyone can be a part of it. As well, all volunteers will have a chance to get to know the artist and to work side-by-side with him on this project – this is a once in a life time opportunity! Please sign up for The Blue Trees by calling Kelly Brox, Visitor Services and Volunteer Manager at the Museum 508-428-7581, or email kbrox@cahoonmuseum.org. Sign up is also available through our website on our Blue Trees page at: https://cahoonmuseum.org/exhibitions/konstantin-dimopoulos-the-blue-trees/ There are many other ways to volunteer at the Museum on a weekly or bimonthly basis, for special projects and events, or to even be “on call". Gallery Assistants Our visitation has doubled (!) this spring and more community groups are visiting the museum than ever before. We have openings for volunteers to be gallery assistants and available shifts are Tuesday from 1:00pm - 4:00pm, Saturday from 10:00am -1:00pm and 1:00pm – 4:00pm, and Sunday from 1:00pm - 4:00pm. Shifts can be weekly, biweekly or monthly. Substitute positions are available as well. If you enjoy museums and speaking with people who love art in a casual and comfortable environment, this opportunity would be perfect for you. This summer will be an especially exciting time to be at the Museum as we anticipate record crowds for our upcoming exhibition, Exquisite Shells: The Art of Sailors Valentines. Distribution Other ways to get involved include distribution of our marketing materials at public posting locations, libraries, coffee shops, banks, grocery stores – a quick and effective way to help get the word out about all the Museum’s activities. Distribution only happens 4-5 times a year. Special Event Assistance We have many special events this season which need support and it is a great way to make new friends, enjoy the social life the Museum has to offer and to get involved without having to make a weekly commitment. Crocker Journal Research One special project underway is research on an historical journal written by Zenas Crocker while he lived in the Museum’s historic house during the 18th Century. We are seeking people who know about, or love, local history, or who have experience doing archival research. This is a very unique project that will culminate in a Museum exhibition in 2020. Other archival projects, large and small, are on-going at the Museum as well. Please let us know if you are interested and would like to know more. For more information on these and additional opportunities up call Kelly Brox, Visitor Services and Volunteer Manager at the Museum 508-428-7581, email kbrox@cahoonmuseum.org
