Searching for a location for the Falmouth Y and gearing up for the capital campaign planning to fund it continue at a robust pace. Meanwhile, we are collaborating to bring much needed programs to Falmouth and Upper Cape communities. Our Capewide partnerships made these "2018 By the Numbers" possible! Falmouth After School Program • 455 children were served in 5 elementary schools. Vacation Program for School-Age Children on school breaks (held at Camp Lyndon in Sandwich.) • 76 children served • $5,956 in scholarships awarded to families in need. North Falmouth Early Learning Center • 47 children served • $14,028 in scholarships awarded to families in need It's not only about the numbers. Families said: • My child has learned so much from this program, from help with potty training to learning to write and be curious. I cannot express how grateful I am for this experience! • My daughter feels comfortable at the YMCA. Teachers have built a strong relationship with her and she has formed friendships she talks about at home all the time. Her language is exploding and her motor skills have improved vastly. • My son is just an infant, but I am really glad I have him in the program part-time to expand his horizons beyond life within his immediate family. I think it's crucial for him to understand a little bit about the world and people around him, and I strongly believe the Y is helping him to do that in a safe, caring, warm environment! • Teachers support my child in her explorations and embrace and encourage her to be confident in who she is. The school puts an emphasis on developmentally appropriate social-emotional skills, nutrition, and physical growth that I see reaching into our home life and the way she approaches new people and challenges. Food Service Program • Did you know that YMCA Cape Cod brings food to hungry children? Seventeen partnership locations from Yarmouth to Falmouth are part of 22 Anti-Hunger locations Capewide during the summer. Eleven Anti-Hunger locations are open year round. • 53 children received 520 meals at the East Falmouth Public Library. Summer Camp on the Upper Cape • 408 children participated at Camp Lyndon in Sandwich (The Goat and Turtle bus include stops in 4 Upper Cape towns!) • 222 children participated in two camps at Falmouth High School with healthy activities and a travel camp with 25 field trips. • $214,408 awarded to families in need at Camp Lyndon and Falmouth Summer Camps combined.
