The Steamship Authority, serving the port communities of Falmouth, Barnstable, New Bedford, Fairhaven, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, announced the winners of their third annual art contest for kids in grades K-12 living in those port communities. Conceived to engage students to celebrate our shared heritage of the sea, nearly 100 students submitted original artwork inspired by the theme “Sail Into Imagination.” Following a rigorous round of judging by a panel of experts, fourteen submissions were selected to be showcased in a 2019 calendar – one image for each month and one each for the front and back cover. Artwork was reviewed and winners selected by judges: Nancy Pettibone, Cape Cod Artist and Art Teacher; Emily Mezzetti, Education Director, John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum; and Kimberly DuCharme Nickerson, Cape Cod Artist. The winners were recognized at a celebratory reception at the Cotuit Center for the Arts on Monday, July 23. Winning selections were unveiled and displayed at the Museum during the reception. In addition to having their artwork displayed on the Steamship Authority’s 2019 calendar and on SSA ferries and terminals, each winner was awarded a $100 gift card for passenger travel aboard a ferry. “All of entries we received showed tremendous creativity,” said Robert Davis, General Manager of the SSA. “Our judges had a challenging task of selecting only thirteen, but we’re thrilled to congratulate these winners and showcase their talents aboard our vessels and in next year’s calendar.” The complete list of winners includes: Sophia Adelstein, Grade 11, Falmouth High School; Bailey Brown, Grade 5, Morse Pond School – Falmouth; Aoife Cahill, Grade 3, Mullen-Hall Elementary – Falmouth; Lethicia Diniz, Grade 3, Edgartown School; Lilliana Feronti, Grade 6, Morse Pond School – Falmouth; Victoria Johnson, Grade 11, Falmouth High School; Willa Mincer, Grade 3, Mullen-Hall Elementary – Falmouth; Aubrey Moeck, Grade K, East Falmouth Elementary; Chloe Nicotera, Grade 4, Tisbury School; Alina Pacheco, Grade 2, Holy Family Holy Name – New Bedford; Shantelle Roberts, Grade 6, Barnstable Intermediate School; Ella Strano, Grade 11, Sturgis Charter Public School; Riley Uzzell, Grade 2, Casimir Pulaski School – New Bedford; Mikaela Venuti, Grade 6, Barnstable Intermediate School
