Habitat Cape Cod Raises $50,000 with Deconstruction Program

Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod has removed 27 cabinet sets and raised $50,000 to be earmarked for building more affordable homes on the Cape since launching their new Deconstruction Program in March of 2022.

On Thursday, August 11, the highly trained and fully insured volunteer Deconstruction team removed cabinets from the Lily House, another nonprofit on the Cape. The Lily House is a community home for living and dying located at 40 Pocahontus Rd in Wellfleet. The mission is to provide around-the-clock hospice-level care at no cost to those in need. The Lily House anticipates opening its doors and welcoming residents in early 2023, following house renovations. For more information, please visit thelilyhouse.org

Used (but still in good condition) cabinets are typically thrown away during a remodel, but thanks to Habitat, they can have a second life.

The volunteer team will bring them back to one of Habitat’s two ReStore locations (Yarmouth and Falmouth) where they will be sold to the public. Funds raised will be used to build more affordable homes on the Cape. To donate cabinets or any other household item to Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod visit restorecapecod.org/donate or call (508) 394-6400. The uninstall and removal of cabinets is a free service.

In the past 35 years, Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod has developed over 165 affordable homes on Cape Cod. Local families help build their own homes alongside volunteers, purchase their home and pay an affordable mortgage. Habitat homes are deed restricted to remain affordable in perpetuity.
