SOUTH YARMOUTH—The Thomas C. McGowan Fund for Animals of The Cape Cod Foundation awarded a total of $40,000 in grants to 11 local nonprofit organizations to support domesticated animals and wildlife. The fund was established at the Foundation through a gift from the late Thomas C. McGowan, who was passionate about animals and wanted to ensure that there would be funds to support their protection and welfare long after his death. In establishing the fund, McGowan indicated a preference for initiatives that focused on medical treatment, spaying/neutering of domestic animals, the prevention of cruelty to animals, and education and awareness-building on related public issues.
