(Hyannis, December 14, 2017) Eight local physicians and providers are practicing with their professional partners for the Second Annual Dancing With the Docs event in support of cancer wellness services. The show is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, at Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club in Brewster. Like the inaugural event earlier this year, the 2018 gala is a fundraiser for Cape Wellness Collaborative (CWC), a non-profit that provides free complementary, integrative therapies to people with cancer. The event is sponsored by CWC and Cape Cod Healthcare. The physicians are paired with local professional dancers and a trio of judges will evaluate their technique and style at the formal, black tie event. Their scores, combined with public votes online or via texts, will determine the mirror ball winner. Competing in the 2018 event are: • Suzanne Corrado, MD (West Coast swing with Dough McHugh) • Clara Mesonero, MD ( rumba with John Vazquez • Christopher Novak, PharmD (American swing with Naomi Turner) • Jill Oxley, MD (disco with Michele Colley) • Nancy Schaefer, MD (waltz with Adam Spencer) • Kumara Sidhartha, MD (salsa with Leah Calitri) • Sarah Todd, MD (foxtrot with David Troutman) • Kevin Vilsaint, MD (tango with Rebecca Terkelsen) “Cancer is a difficult and complex disease, and treating it successfully often requires a variety of methods. Our partnership with the Cape Wellness Collaborative has allowed us to add another layer of care for some of the 1,400 people diagnosed with cancer each year, through complementary modalities like acupuncture, massage, Reiki and nutrition counseling,” said Michael K. Lauf, president and CEO of Cape Cod Healthcare. “The physicians who are participating in Dancing With the Docs have stepped up to help patients in a fun and creative way, and we are very grateful to them.” CWC was founded in 2014 and began serving clients in 2015. The non-profit provides free complementary therapies to people with cancer. Founder and director Sarah Swain said she and her group are pleased at the success of the inaugural Dancing With the Docs, and look forward to another positive event. “Our second Dancing With the Docs is shaping up to be a great success,” she said. “We’re so lucky to have such an amazing group of volunteer doctors and dancers who amaze us with their dedication to supporting the Cape Wellness Collaborative and the many people in our community facing cancer.” Dr. Schaefer said she is “honored and grateful” to have the opportunity to learn something new and out of her comfort zone – with an added bonus. “All the while I know it is for a great cause and will be able to help so many patients who are suffering from cancer,” she added. On the night of the event, a panel of three judges will evaluate each couple on technical skill, timing, dance style and audience appeal, and will award the winner that night. The Feb. 3 gala will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. at Ocean Edge Resort & Golf Club on Route 6A in Brewster. Tickets are $250 and are on sale now at the event web site, www.dwtdcapecod.com.
