Funding will support and sustain music ensemble programs Barnstable, MA – September 21, 2017 – The Cape Conservatory has received a $25,000 grant from the Bilezikian Family Foundation to support its music ensemble programs. These dynamic programs include the Cape Youth Chorale, Cape Youth Orchestra, CJazz, and the Conservatory String Ensemble. The overarching goal of the ensemble programs is to expand students’ personal relationship with the arts, and to share in the experience of creating music with their peers. Whether part of a string quartet or a larger group like a chorus or orchestra, students learn from each other and work collaboratively to reach their end goal: to express their creativity through music. Rehearsals, practices, and ultimately public performances help shape the lives and character of each participant. While each ensemble program has a distinct value, together the programs demonstrate the Conservatory’s commitment to providing multiple entry points for artistic exploration across the generational spectrum. In short, Inspiring Joy Through the Arts. Music students interested in joining one of the Conservatory’s music ensembles may do so by visiting the Conservatory’s website at capeconservatory.org or by calling 508.362.2772. The Cape Youth Chorale, under the direction of John Yankee, offers three choirs for students ages 5 to 15 at both the Barnstable and Falmouth campuses. Students experience the power and joy of choral music while pursuing the highest levels of excellence in vocal training and musicianship. The Chorale offers a wonderful opportunity for children to discover and uncover more about themselves and their "natural instrument," while making new friends, joyful music, and terrific memories. The Cape Youth Orchestra Program, under the direction of Chris Schroeder, is comprised of four ensembles: the Philharmonic, Chamber Strings, Debut Winds, and Debut Strings. Engaging weekly rehearsals challenge the participants to strive for musical excellence, while introducing them to classical and contemporary symphonic repertoire and providing practical tools to strengthen their musicianship skills. CJazz, under the direction of Bart Weisman, is a multi-generational program offered at both Conservatory campuses, introducing “America’s classical music” to middle and high school students, and adult learners throughout the region. This program enables musicians of all ages and skill levels an opportunity to play jazz standards just like professionals on a bandstand. The Conservatory String Ensemble, under the direction of Bo Ericsson, offers an enriching opportunity for adults who have basic facility on a string instrument, who would like to expand their skills through the joy of playing in an ensemble. Weekly rehearsals are held in a fun, supportive yet structured setting. The diverse repertoire includes Baroque, Renaissance, and contemporary selections. The ensemble performs a concert for family and friends at the end of the semester.
