Highfield Hall & Gardens will open its doors for a Fall Open House on Sunday, September 10, 2017 from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm. Admission is free to this annual event that highlights the artwork of local and regional artists. Receptions for four exhibitions will take place between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. The artists include watercolorist Deena Gu, painters San Lyman and Andrea Moore, and 30 members of The Printmakers of Cape Cod. Falmouth resident Deena Gu is exhibiting her most recent large-scale watercolor paintings in which recognizable elements of land, sea and sky appear to merge into diaphanous and atmospheric tableaus. Inspired by music and poetry, these introspective and contemplative compositions integrate the fluidity of Chinese painting with contemporary influences. Woods Hole artist San Lyman has created new series of oil paintings that depict images of people looking at artworks, many of them very famous, in museums in New York City. Her direct observations as well as photographs she takes on site inspire the works. Ms. Lyman has recreated the famous artworks and recorded the viewer’s reactions of shock, delight, amazement and perplexity in each painting. Andrea Moore is presenting new paintings and three-dimensional artworks inspired by the gardens of her summer home in Gloucestershire, where she often paints en plein air. Ms. Moore is a life-long artist with interests in painting, sculpture, printmaking and ceramics. This exhibition explores the merging of these media, influenced by the lush plants and flowers she cares for in her English garden, where she has been participating in a garden restoration project. In the first floor galleries, Conversations of Beauty: Works by Members of The Printmakers of Cape Cod will be on display. This exhibition includes prints that highlight the artists’ interpretation of the natural beauty of Cape Cod. It includes 30 regional printmakers whose works were selected for both how they reflect the theme of the show and how they correspond to one another both visually and thematically. The Fall Open House includes two walking tours, an Estate Tour at 12:30 pm and a Garden Tour at 1:30 pm.
