The Falmouth Scouting Community and Cape Cod & Islands Council will host a special event on Thursday, May 18 to celebrate the memory and legacy of Robert “Uncle Bob” Sylvia. The program will take place at The Flying Bridge restaurant at 6:30 PM. Bob devoted much of his volunteer time to Scouting serving in a variety of roles at the unit and council level over a period of 50 years. Perhaps he was best known as the Scoutmaster of Troop 42, serving boys in Falmouth. His quiet, unassuming leadership influenced literally hundreds of boys as they grew up into productive members of their communities. Sadly, he passed away at the age of 86 on February 17, 2015. Three of Bob’s Eagle Scouts: Troy Clarkson, Chris Alves, and George Baker are all well-known leaders in the Falmouth community. They all attribute a significant part of their growth as boys and young men to the Scouting program and specifically the leadership of their Scoutmaster, Bob Sylvia. Bob was passionate about Camp Greenough and the important part camping played in the Scouting program. All proceeds from the evening will benefit the Cape Cod & Islands Council Campership Fund to assist families who cannot afford the cost of summer programs at Camp Greenough. Individuals are asked for a donation of $25. Sponsorship opportunities are also available and include an ad or personal message in the program book. Reservations can be made by calling 508-362-4322 or online at www.scoutscapecod.org.
