(Hyannis, February 28, 2017) – Cape Cod Healthcare (CCHC) this week announced the recipients of its FY2017 Community Benefits Annual Strategic Grants. The proposals were reviewed by the Cape Cod Healthcare Community Health Committee, which then awarded more than $245,000 in competitive strategic grants to ten Cape-based organizations. Individual grants were given out in amounts up to $30,000 each. Cape Cod Healthcare sought proposals for programs that would: • Address and positively impact specified chronic or infectious disease management or • Support initiatives targeted at individuals and families facing mental health issues. Chronic and infectious diseases, along with mental health issues were identified as two of the most pressing problems facing Cape Cod in the FY2017-FY2019 Cape Cod Hospital and Falmouth Hospital Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) report. The Community Benefits Annual Strategic Grants are in addition to the $2.5 million investment in programs that address the prevention and treatment of substance use disorder in our community, which was announced by Cape Cod Healthcare last month. The ten organizations that are recipients of this year’s Annual Strategic grants are: • Cape and Islands Emergency Services System, Inc. (CIEMSS) • Calmer Choice • Cape Wellness Collaborative • Cape Cod Cooperative Extension • Cape Cod Shelter and Domestic Violence Services • Samaritans of Cape Cod and the Islands • Alzheimer’s Family Caregiver Support Center • Hope Dementia and Alzheimer’s Services • Family Pantry of Cape Cod • YMCA Cape Cod “Cape Cod Healthcare is pleased to award our FY2017 Community Benefits grants to ten organizations that provide well-run and necessary programs in the areas of health education, treatment and prevention in our region,” said Theresa Ahern, Senior Vice President, Strategy and Government Affairs. “Together with partners like these, we can address and make a significant impact on some of the most pressing needs in our community.” The FY2017 selected grantees represent a variety of programs that benefit the Cape Cod community. These range from wellness and complementary therapies for cancer patients, to a tick-borne disease testing and surveillance program, to support groups and respite grants for caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease, to a mobile food pantry on Cape Cod. The Annual Strategic Grants program is part of a larger CCHC Community Benefits grant program providing assistance to community organizations across Cape Cod. In addition to grants, CCHC invests more than $21 million annually in community health initiatives, including charity care, hospital-based programs, collaboration with federally qualified community health centers, regional health and human service partnerships, and workforce development initiatives. CCHC solicits grant applications from non-profit organizations that address specified unmet health needs of Barnstable County residents.
