January 24, 2017- In the Conservatory’s winter session of Art Appreciation, instructor Susan Pennington leads students in an illuminating study Boston Art and Architecture. The class will explore Pilgrim and Puritan Art, John Singleton Copley, Gilbert Stuart, Washington Allston, Fitz Hugh Lane, and Winslow Homer, along with the architecture of Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market, the Old and current State Houses, Charles Bulfinch, Beacon Hill and the Back Bay, Henry Hobson Richardson, McKim, Mead, and White, I.M. Pei, Eero Saarinen, and Le Corbusier. Class members may take an optional day trip to Boston for a tour including Trinity Church and the Boston Public Library, in the heart of Boston's Back Bay. Classes at the Conservatory’s Falmouth campus will be held Tuesdays from 1-3pm, February 7 – March 28 ($77). The companion excursion to Boston will be Tuesday, March 14 ($50), departing at 9:30am and returning by 5pm. Classes at the Conservatory’s Barnstable campus will be held Thursdays from 1-3pm, February 9 – March 30 ($77). A companion trip to the MFA will be Thursday, March 16 ($50), departing the Barnstable campus at 9:30am; pick-up at Sagamore Park & Ride at 9:45am; returning by 5pm. Ms. Pennington earned a Masters Degree in Art History from the University of Wisconsin.
