September 14, 2016- In the Conservatory’s fall session of Art Appreciation, instructor Susan Pennington leads students in an illuminating study of American Impressionists, along with an optional Cultural Caravan bus trip to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Through fascinating multi-media presentations, Ms. Pennington explores the 19th-century art movement that is characterized by loose brushwork and vivid colors, delving into the works of William Merritt Chase, Childe Hassam, Mary Cassatt, and John Singer Sargent, among others. Adults may take the optional day trip to the MFA, Boston to see the William Merrit Chase exhibit. Classes at the Conservatory’s Falmouth campus will be held Tuesdays from 1-3pm, September 27 – November 15 ($77). The companion excursion to the Museum of Fine Arts will be Tuesday, November 1 ($50+ museum admission), departing at 9:30am and returning by 5pm. Classes at the Conservatory’s Barnstable campus will be held Thursdays from 2-4pm, September 29 – November 17 ($77). A companion trip to the MFA will be Thursday, November 3 ($50 + museum admission), departing the Barnstable campus at 9:30am; pick-up at Sagamore Park & Ride at 9:45am; returning by 5pm. Ms. Pennington earned a Masters Degree in Art History from the University of Wisconsin. Along with the Conservatory, she has taught at Cape Cod Community College, Falmouth Academy and the International School of Bergen in Norway.
