(Hyannis, September 15, 2015) – The fourth annual Cape Cod and Islands Behavioral Health Summit: Milestones of Behavioral Health: A Look at the Science and Lived Experience Across the Lifespan will be held on Friday, October 7, 2016, at The Resort and Conference Center in Hyannis. The event, which will start at 8 a.m. and end at 4 p.m., is organized by the Behavioral Health Provider Coalition of Cape Cod and the Islands. The Coalition is comprised of 30 organizations, agencies, primary care providers and others serving the mental health needs of residents of Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. The Summit is sponsored by Cape Cod Healthcare, Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank Charitable Foundation Trust, Duffy Health Center, Gosnold on Cape Cod, and Vinfen Cape Cod. The full-day conference will feature nationally-known presenters/researchers: • Mark Vonnegut, MD, author of “The Eden Express” and “Just Like Someone Without Mental Illness Only More So” • Tina Champagne, OTD, OTR/L, CCAP, director at Cutchins Program for Children and Families. The conference will also feature opening remarks by Cape Cod Healthcare President and CEO Michael K. Lauf, and three breakout sessions for attendees. “I am always inspired by the energy our community of providers exhibit at our Summit,” said Diane Wolsieffer, APRN, a Cape Cod Healthcare Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and member of the organizing committee for the Behavioral Health Provider Coalition of Cape Cod and the Islands. “The speakers this year will target the many behavioral health challenges facing the Cape Cod community, and our breakout sessions will showcase innovative programs that are working to assist individuals and their families in finding healthier paths.” The three breakout sessions this year include: • “Addressing Substance Abuse in Pregnancy: Developing a Continuum of Programs for Women and Their Newborns on Cape Cod” – A closer look at some innovative programs. • “Connecting and Supporting in Moments of Young Adults’ Lives in a Strength-Based and Life-Affirming Way” – An introduction to “At the Elbow Coaching” and GIFT training. • “Behavioral Health in Older Adults: Unique Needs, Screening Opportunities and Holistic Approaches” – A panel of three experts discusses an aging Cape Cod.
