In the fall of 2015, Cape Cod Healthcare was the beneficiary of one of the largest charitable bequests in its history. The bequest by the late Elizabeth Munroe Arnold Stevens of Harwich totaled $3.6 million and named Cape Cod Hospital, the hospital’s Davenport-Mugar Cancer Center and the Visiting Nurse Association of Cape Cod as beneficiaries. In honor of Mrs. Stevens’ generous gift, the Intensive Care Unit at Cape Cod Hospital has been named the “Stevens Intensive Care Unit.” “Libby was such an inspiration, and we are honored that she remembered Cape Cod Healthcare in this way,” said Michael K. Lauf, President and CEO of Cape Cod Healthcare. “We will think of her each time we walk into the hospital’s intensive care unit, and are so grateful to celebrate her life for years to come.” Cape Cod Hospital’s 11-bed ICU, which opened in 2013, features state-of-the-art monitoring technology equipment and ample clinical space to deliver the best care to the most critical patients. “As Cape Cod’s population continues to grow and age, the number of patients who need critical care services will increase,” said Mr. Lauf. “Therefore, it’s extremely important that we continue to have an updated unit, with the best physicians, nurses and staff; the latest and best equipment, and ample room for patients and their family members. Mrs. Stevens trusted us to be good stewards of her legacy, and we hope she would approve of the meaningful way we have honored her.” CCHC Chief Development Officer Kevin Ralph said the bequest “is not only a testimony to Mrs. Stevens’ faith in Cape Cod Healthcare’s future; it is a living testament to her admiration of Cape Cod and those who live and visit here. We celebrate her generosity and steadfast belief in Cape Cod Healthcare. Her commitment is one of the first leadership gifts received during the early stages of our next major campaign, and will serve as an inspiration to others.” Cape Cod Healthcare is the leading provider of healthcare services for residents and visitors of Cape Cod.
