(Hyannis, June 14, 2015) – Patients on Cape Cod who have persistent wounds that will not heal now have another option, with the opening of the second Cape Cod Healthcare Wound Care Center at 905 Attucks Lane in Hyannis. The Hyannis center joins its partners -- Cape Cod Healthcare Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center in Bourne and the VNA of Cape Cod -- in highly specialized evaluation and referral for treatment for all types of wounds. “We are extremely pleased to have this new location in the heart of Hyannis for these two valuable services,” said Michael K. Lauf, President and CEO of Cape Cod Healthcare. “We recognize that convenient access to rehab services and wound care services is very important to our patients, and by making this important care available in beautiful, high-tech facilities such as this, we are bringing efficient, cost-effective and high-quality healthcare into the community.” CCHC Centers for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine: with the opening of the Attucks Lane facility, patients now have two locations from which to choose for wound care services: • Bourne Medical Center at 1 Trowbridge Place, Bourne • 905 Attucks Lane, Hyannis Chronic, non-healing wounds require specialized care from physicians and nurses who are trained and experienced in wound care. These wounds are some of the most painful and debilitating conditions and can drastically take away from a patient’s quality of life. Untreated wounds can result in amputation, which greatly increases a patient’s risk of dying within five years. "The fact that we can now offer services in other areas will make a huge difference,” said Patrick Flynn, MD, Medical Director of the Wound Care Center. “This is really a big win for patients, who can now be referred to doctors that specialize in wound care." A wound is considered chronic if it has not healed by 30-40 percent in four weeks. The CCHC wound care team is skilled and experienced in the evaluation and treatment of all types of wounds. Physicians and nurses develop individualized treatment plans to ensure the fastest recovery. The team treats a variety of types of chronic wounds, such as: • Diabetic ulcers • Surgical wounds • Trauma wounds • Post-operative complications In-home wound care services are provided by the Visiting Nurse Association of Cape Cod, which has a team of highly trained wound care nurses working closely with physicians on care to those who cannot leave their home for treatment.
