Hyannis, Mass. – During National Volunteer Week, Hope Hospice is focused on growing its base of dedicated hospice volunteers, seeking out those who want to make a lasting difference in the lives of patients and their families. National Volunteer Week, April 10-16, 2016, is about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their communities. National Volunteer Week is about taking action and encouraging individuals and their respective communities to be at the center of social change — discovering and actively demonstrating their collective power to make a difference. Hope Hospice volunteers consistently report tremendous satisfaction from serving in this capacity, enriching the lives of others while reaping personal rewards. “For the past fifteen years I have enjoyed my time as a Hope Hospice volunteer, both learning and giving my time,” says Steve Morrissey. “Since I joined Hope Hospice in 2001, I have worked in private homes, nursing homes and recently I began working with We Honor Veterans. I have found a special bond between our veterans and myself as a Navy vet. The smile on their faces, as we honor them for their service to our country means so much, especially with family and friends looking on. Hope Hospice is a special place, with so many opportunities for everyone to give of their time and talents!” There are a wide range of volunteer opportunities available to match specialized expertise, unique talents and interest in caring for others. Some of the opportunities include: • Patient and family care and support • Reiki • Massage • Pet therapy • Veteran support • Philanthropy • Administrative assistance All volunteers participate in a comprehensive training program.
